Research and Publication Ethics

Article 1 (Purpose)

The purpose of these codes is to establish codes of ethics and standards to ensure that research involving the Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers (hereinafter referred to as the ""Institute"") does not impair the basic and social ethics of humans in the course of conducting research to achieve their research objectives.

Article 2 (Subject)

The president, executives and all members of the institute must comply with the codes of ethics for research.

Article 3 (Research Ethics)

  1. 1. Members shall be honest in their respective research. Honesty means honesty about the whole course of the research, such as driving ideas related to research, design of experimental methods, analysis of results, expenditure on research, the publication of research results, and fair compensation for research participants.
  2. 2. Members shall respect the copyrights of others and shall not publish all or part of othersโ€™ research or arguments in papers or reports, etc. as if they were their own research or arguments.
  3. 3. Members shall not seek unfair profits by using information acquired about research performance.

Article 4 (Disclosure of Research)

  1. 1. To the extent that research-related security is guaranteed, the members shall make every effort to ensure that results or presentations of research are of assistance to the research of other researchers.
  2. 2. Try to provide requests within limits, such as intellectual property rights or research-related security, when requested by another researcher after the research results are published.

Article 5 (Compensation for Research Related Persons)

  1. 1. Authors listed in published research results, such as papers, shall fulfill their responsibilities for the published results by understanding the contents of the research.
  2. 2. For official joint researchers or those who have contributed directly or indirectly to the research, the efforts should be made to make appropriate compensation according to efforts and contributions, such as presenting their names in the research results, while those who are non-contributive to the research in the course of the research shall not be given the authors' rights.

Article 6 (Plagiarism)

The definition of plagiarism is to arbitrarily use other peopleโ€™s arguments or research results without clarifying the relevant grounds, even if intentionally unintentionally, or to copy much of someone elseโ€™s research results or arguments exactly without quotation marks, although they have given relevant grounds.

Article 7

The editorial committee of the relevant academic journal is primarily responsible for the submission of content already published in another journal, confirmation of whether plagiarism or not on papers suspected of plagiarism during the examination process, confirmation of details about sanctions. If there is a complaint against the violation of the code of ethics of the institute, the Ethics Committee shall be organized to determine the violation and disciplinary matters.

Article 8

The following sanctions may be imposed on research and authors that have been found plagiarism or unethical acts in the research of the members and in the research submitted to the academic journals, depending on the degree through the review by the editorial committee and the Ethics Committee.

  1. 1. Sending a letter of disciplinary action taken by the institute.
  2. 2. Requires deletion or modification of the relevant research results in the journal of the institute.
  3. 3. Prohibition of the paper submission of the study-related person for an appropriate period.
  4. 4. Loss of membership and demand for notification of details of research-related institutions for an appropriate period.
  5. 5. Exclusion of membership from the institute.

Article 9

If the same research is later found to have been published in duplicate with other journals, the same sanctions may be imposed as plagiarism.

Article 10 (Organization of Ethics Committee)

  1. 1. The Institute operates an Ethics Committee within the institute to review, deliberate, and decide matters related to research ethics.
  2. 2. The Ethics Committee shall be comprised of seven members, including one chairperson and one vice-chairman.
  3. 3. The Chairman of the Ethics Committee shall be appointed by the president of the institute from among the vice-chairmen of the institute, and vice-chairmen and members of the Ethics Committee shall be appointed by agreement between the chairman of the Ethics Committee and the president of the institute.
  4. 4. The Vice-Chairman and the Committee Manager of the Ethics Committee shall be elected by mutual vote.

Article 11 (Operation of Ethics Committee)

  1. 1. Responsible for the enactment and revision of necessary research ethics.
  2. 2. Deliberate violations of the code of ethics for the members and research that have faced a lawsuit and decide sanctions for violations.
  3. 3. Deliberate and decide the matter which has faced a lawsuit within 60 days from the date it is received.
  4. 4. The Committee shall maintain all security for the details and processes of the investigation and protect the personal information of those concerned during the Commissionโ€™s investigation period.
  5. 5. The Ethics Committee may take appropriate follow-up measures to restore the honor of the defendant or suspect if the findings of the investigation are free from suspicion or If the charges are cleared with sufficient explanation.

Article 12 (Deliberations by the Ethics Committee)

  1. 1. Research ethics-related matters raised about papers, plans, reports, etc. related to the institute.
  2. 2. Matters concerning the safety, privacy, and compensation for damages of subjects related to research.
  3. 3. Accusations raised about unethical research in relation to the institute.
  4. 4. Matters related to research ethics determined by the chairman.

Article 13 (Filing of a lawsuit by Ethics Committee and Duty of Suspect)

  1. 1. The Ethics Committee shall get autographs by at least three regular members to file a lawsuit.
  2. 2. Executives and members who have faced a lawsuit by Ethics Committee shall cooperate with the Ethics Committeeโ€™s investigation.

Article 14 (Duties of the Ethics Committee)

  1. 1. The Ethics Committee shall guarantee the rights of the person who has faced a lawsuit as a member until the results of its deliberations are decided.
  2. 2. Any person who has faced a lawsuit by the Ethics Committee shall have the right to fully explain to the Committee, and the Committee shall give it the opportunity to explain and refute.

Article 15

These codes shall enter into force on the date of the decision by the KIIE Council.
